Xylan Analysis Service
With advanced analytical platforms, MtoZ Biolabs provides a high-sensitivity and comprehensive xylan analysis service that covers the complete process from sample separation and purification to structural, compositional, and physicochemical characterization, helping clients to deeply understand the chemical characteristics and application potential of xylan.
What is Xylan?
Xylan is a class of high molecular weight polysaccharides linked by β-1,4-xylosidic bonds and is one of the most abundant hemicellulose components in plant cell walls. According to the differences in sources and substituent groups, xylan can be divided into linear xylan, arabinoxylan, and glucuronoxylan. It not only forms the structural framework of plant cell walls but also interacts with cellulose and lignin to form complex composite networks, playing a key role in the mechanical strength of plants and intercellular adhesion.
In industrial and scientific research fields, xylan has attracted much attention due to its wide applications in bioenergy conversion, food processing, pharmaceuticals, papermaking, and material science. The physicochemical properties, branching structures, and molecular weight distribution of xylan directly affect its solubility, reactivity, and bioavailability. Through systematic xylan analysis (Xylan Analysis), researchers can elucidate its chemical composition, molecular structure, and functional characteristics, providing data support for plant cell wall research, renewable resource development, and industrial applications.
Services at MtoZ Biolabs
MtoZ Biolabs’ xylan analysis service focuses on multidimensional analysis, providing clients with high-quality and systematic data support from sample preparation, structural analysis, to physicochemical characterization.
1. Separation and Purification
We use multi-step separation strategies such as hot water extraction, alkaline extraction, alcohol precipitation, and membrane filtration to obtain high-purity xylan fractions from different sources (such as plant tissues, wood residues, grain husks, and fermentation products). The purification efficiency is monitored by HPLC or GPC to ensure the accuracy of subsequent structural analysis and quantitative detection.
2. Structure Analysis
Using FT-IR, ¹H-NMR, ¹³C-NMR, and X-ray diffraction techniques, we analyze the main chain linkages of xylan and the presence and content of substituents such as acetyl, arabinose, and glucuronic acid. Structural analysis reveals polymerization characteristics, spatial conformation, and substitution patterns, providing fundamental information for studying physicochemical properties and functional performance.
3. Monosaccharide Composition Analysis
Acid hydrolysis combined with HPAEC-PAD, HPLC-RID, or GC-MS techniques is used to quantitatively analyze the proportions of xylose, arabinose, galactose, glucose, and other monosaccharides in hydrolyzed samples, clarifying the chemical composition and branching characteristics of xylan. This result can be used to evaluate structural differences between samples or the influence of extraction processes.
4. Viscosity Analysis
Capillary viscometry, rotational rheometry, and GPC-MALS are used to measure solution viscosity and molecular weight distribution of xylan, analyzing its rheological properties and degree of polymerization. These data reflect its solubility, dispersibility, and processing properties, serving as important reference indicators in food and material applications.
Analysis Workflow
1. Sample pretreatment: removal of lipids, proteins, and other impurities
2. Separation and purification: hot water or alkaline extraction followed by alcohol precipitation and desalting
3. Hydrolysis and derivatization: acid or enzymatic hydrolysis, derivatization if necessary to enhance detection sensitivity
4. Detection and analysis: HPLC, GC, FT-IR, and NMR methods for composition and structure characterization
5. Data organization and report generation: integration of quantitative, structural, and physicochemical data into a standardized analytical report
