Can Co-Immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) Be Used for Quantitative Comparison
Co-Immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) is generally not appropriate for direct quantitative comparisons, as it is primarily employed to detect protein–protein interactions rather than to measure protein expression levels. Co-IP is typically considered a qualitative technique aimed at verifying the existence of specific protein interactions.
For quantitative comparisons, complementary techniques such as Western blotting are often utilized to enhance the interpretability of Co-IP results. Western blotting offers more accurate and reliable quantification of protein abundance. However, even with these supplementary methods, several factors must be carefully controlled—including sample preparation procedures, the amount of protein loaded, and the sensitivity of detection—all of which can significantly influence the reliability and accuracy of quantitative outcomes.
