Tetranor-PGFM (tetranor-prostaglandin F metabolite) is a major metabolite of Prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α). Structurally, tetranor-PGFM is a shortened degradation product of PGF2α, resulting from its metabolism primarily in the liver, and is often excreted in the urine. Due to its metabolic nature, it serves as a reliable biomarker for monitoring the systemic production and activity of PGF2α, making it a valuable target for clinical and research investigations. PGF2α and its metabolites, such as tetranor-PGFM, play crucial roles in various physiological processes, including the regulation of uterine contractions, ovulation, and luteolysis. These molecules are also implicated in inflammatory responses, vascular tone regulation, and pathologies such as hypertension and certain cancers.
