Taurocholanic Acid Analysis Service

Taurocholic acid (TCA), also known as cholyltaurine, or acidum cholatauricum, is a deliquescent yellowish crystalline bile acid that plays a key role in the emulsification of fats. TCA occurs naturally as a sodium salt in the bile of mammals and is formed by the conjugation of cholic acid (CA) with taurine. It is critical in the bile acid cycle, aiding in the emulsification and absorption of dietary fats and regulating cholesterol metabolism, while also maintaining liver function. In medical applications, TCA is used as a cholagogue and choleretic, facilitating bile flow and secretion. Abnormal levels of TCA, particularly its excessive accumulation, are closely linked to various hepatobiliary diseases, including cholestasis, cirrhosis, and gallstones. Therefore, accurate analysis of TCA and its metabolites is essential for the diagnosis, research, and treatment of liver and bile duct diseases.
