Lipidomics is the comprehensive study of lipids within cells, tissues, or organisms, focusing on their types, concentrations, and functions. Lipids play crucial roles not only in energy storage and membrane structure but also in processes such as signal transduction and metabolic regulation. By analyzing lipid molecules in a systematic manner, lipidomics reveals their dynamic roles in both physiological and pathological states, offering insights that are essential for metabolomics and disease research.
Quantitative lipidomics is central to understanding lipid metabolism, providing researchers with the tools to quantify lipid levels under different conditions. This approach is invaluable in biomarker discovery, elucidating disease mechanisms, and facilitating drug development.
MtoZ Biolabs offers PRM Quantitative Lipidomics Analysis services that utilize Parallel Reaction Monitoring (PRM) technology in combination with high-resolution mass spectrometry and isotope-labeled internal standards. This enables precise and targeted quantification of lipid molecules with high selectivity and sensitivity. PRM is particularly well-suited for studies focused on lipid metabolism, disease mechanisms, and biomarker validation.
Technical Principles
PRM Quantitative Lipidomics Analysis is performed using a Q-Orbitrap quadrupole high-resolution mass spectrometry platform. Unlike SRM (Selected Reaction Monitoring), where only a single ion transition is monitored at a time, PRM technology captures all fragment ions of a precursor in a full scan, offering more comprehensive data. The process begins with quadrupole (Q1) selection of precursor ions, typically within an m/z range of ≤ 2. These precursor ions are then fragmented in the collision cell (Q2), and the resulting fragments are scanned in high resolution by the Orbitrap, which replaces the traditional Q3 detector. This approach allows PRM to offer both quantitative capabilities similar to SRM/MRM and qualitative analysis, making it a powerful tool for lipidomics.

Service Advantages
1. Broad Applicability
PRM is suitable for a wide range of species and does not require standards for most lipid types, making it ideal for both exploratory and targeted research.
2. High Throughput
Capable of detecting dozens of lipid molecules simultaneously, PRM reduces the need for large sample volumes and lowers experimental costs.
3. Exceptional Quantification
PRM offers sensitivity down to ppm levels with a wide linear dynamic range covering 5-6 orders of magnitude, ensuring precise detection of even low-abundance lipids.
4. High Selectivity and Qualitative Capabilities
PRM monitors all fragment ions of precursor lipids, ensuring comprehensive and accurate detection.
Applications
MtoZ Biolabs offers PRM Quantitative Lipidomics Analysis services that integrate high-resolution mass spectrometry and isotope-labeled internal standards with the high throughput and sensitivity of PRM technology. This ensures that researchers receive accurate, reliable lipid quantification data, supporting research in metabolic pathways, disease mechanisms, and drug development.
