Pregnanediol (chemical formula C21H36O2) is a steroid compound with a typical steroid backbone consisting of four carbon rings. It belongs to the 5β-pregnane class of metabolites and contains two hydroxyl groups at the 3rd and 20th carbon positions. Pregnanediol is a metabolite of progesterone, primarily produced in the liver and excreted in urine. Pregnanediol itself has low biological activity and mainly serves as a marker of progesterone metabolism.
