Phloretin is a dihydrochalcone compound widely found in Rosaceae plants such as apples and pears. Its structure contains two aromatic rings connected by a dihydropyran ring. This unique structure endows phloretin with multiple significant pharmacological properties in terms of biological activity. Phloretin has demonstrated various biological activities in medical research, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral effects. It can exert antioxidant effects by scavenging free radicals and inhibiting oxidative stress, thereby protecting cells from oxidative damage. In terms of anti-inflammatory effects, phloretin can reduce inflammatory responses by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. Moreover, phloretin shows potential as an anticancer agent by inhibiting the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells through multiple mechanisms.
