Ononin Analysis Service

Ononin is an isoflavone glycoside compound belonging to the flavonoid class of plant secondary metabolites. Ononin is widely found in various leguminous plants, such as red clover (Trifolium pratense) and soybean (Glycine max). Additionally, it is also present in some traditional medicinal plants, such as licorice (Glycyrrhiza) used in traditional medicine. The chemical structure of ononin consists of an isoflavone core formed by a 4-oxo-benzopyranone ring and a benzene ring, to which a glycoside chain is attached. Its molecular formula is C22H22O9.

In the body, ononin is primarily hydrolyzed and metabolized into its aglycone form, Formononetin. First, in the gastrointestinal tract, the glycosidic bond of ononin may be cleaved by hydrolase enzymes, releasing Formononetin. Subsequently, Formononetin can undergo further metabolic transformations into other metabolites, such as dihydroformononetin or its sulfate and glucuronide conjugates. These metabolites are typically excreted in the urine.
