Lactosylceramide Analysis Service

Lactosylceramide (LacCer) is a glycosphingolipid, a subgroup of sphingolipids that contains a carbohydrate group. It is synthesized by adding a lactose moiety to a ceramide backbone, a process regulated by the glycosphingolipid biosynthesis pathway. LacCer plays a critical role in various cellular functions, including cell signaling, cell-to-cell interactions, and the development of the nervous system. It also serves as a precursor for the formation of more complex glycosphingolipids, such as gangliosides and globosides. Furthermore, LacCer is implicated in several diseases, including Gaucher's disease, Sandhoff disease, and Tay-Sachs disease. Disruptions in LacCer biosynthesis are associated with these conditions, making it a potential therapeutic target. Studying LacCer not only enhances our understanding of fundamental cell biology but also opens new avenues for developing disease treatments.
