Aflatoxin Analysis Service

Aflatoxins are a group of highly toxic and carcinogenic secondary metabolites produced primarily by the fungi Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. These compounds, including aflatoxin B₁, B₂, G₁, and G₂, pose significant health risks to both humans and animals due to their presence in contaminated food and feed products. Structurally, aflatoxins are characterized by a difuran ring fused to a coumarin structure, which imparts their potent biological activity. Among them, aflatoxin B₁ is the most toxic and is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

The presence of aflatoxins in food products such as grains, nuts, spices, and dairy products is a major public health concern worldwide. Exposure to aflatoxins can lead to acute poisoning, known as aflatoxicosis, with symptoms including liver damage, immune suppression, and in severe cases, death. Chronic exposure is linked to liver cancer, stunted growth in children, and other severe health conditions. Due to these significant health risks, stringent regulations and limits have been established globally for aflatoxin levels in food and feed products. Accurate detection and quantification of aflatoxins are critical for ensuring food safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

At MtoZ Biolabs, we utilize our ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry tandem (UPLC-MS/MS) detection platform for the rapid and accurate identification and quantitative analysis of aflatoxin. Our advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment enable us to provide precise and reliable results.

    Technical Principles

We use the most advanced Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) techniques for aflatoxin analysis. This technology separates compounds based on their chemical properties, and then identifies them based on their mass-to-charge ratio. UPLC-MS/MS is highly sensitive and specific, capable of detecting even trace amounts of aflatoxins in complex samples.
