The oxidation of PGF1α to 15-keto PGF1α represents a key step in the deactivation of prostaglandin signaling, particularly related to smooth muscle contraction, vasodilation, and inflammatory regulation. This oxidation at the C-15 position significantly reduces the receptor binding affinity and biological activity of PGF1α in mammals.
