4-thiouridine Analysis Service

4-thiouridine (4sU) is a naturally occurring modified nucleoside. It is present in the tRNA of many species including bacteria, yeast, and mammals. Structurally, 4-thiouridine is an analogue of uridine with a sulfur atom replacing the 4th carbon atom of the uracil ring. 4-thiouridine is involved in various cellular processes, such as the regulation of gene expression, RNA stability, and response to stress conditions. With its ability to absorb ultraviolet light, 4-thiouridine has been used as a photoactivatable crosslinking agent to study RNA-protein interactions. The sulfur atom in 4-thiouridine can catalyze the formation of thiolation, a post-transcriptional modification that modulates tRNA stability and function.
