Ursocholic Acid Analysis Service
Ursocholic acid (UCA) is a trihydroxy bile acid predominantly found in bear bile, recognized for its significant role in bile acid metabolism and its interactions with gut microbiota. Structurally, UCA is characterized as a 5beta-cholan-24-oic acid with hydroxy groups at the 3α, 7β, and 12α positions, differentiating it from other bile acids like chenodeoxycholic acid in humans and hyocholic acid in pigs. These distinct hydroxylation patterns impart unique bioactive properties within bile acid metabolism. In the liver, UCA undergoes conjugation with taurine or glycine before being secreted into bile and subsequently metabolized further in the intestine by bacterial enzymes. These unique features make UCA particularly valuable in studies of bile acid metabolism, liver health, and gut microbiota dynamics.
