Pilocarpine Analysis Service

Pilocarpine, also known by various chemical names such as oocusertp20, 2(3H)-furanone, Pilokarpol, is an alkaloid derived from the South American Pilocarpus plant. It is effectively used in treating primary glaucoma and enhancing salivary gland function. Conducting metabolic analyses of pilocarpine is pivotal; it not only helps elucidate the drug's metabolic pathways but also fine-tunes dosing regimens to improve treatment precision and personalization. Such analyses are essential for evaluating pilocarpine's effectiveness and stability, offering vital insights necessary for advancing clinical trials and drug development efforts.

MtoZ Biolabs utilizes liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for metabolomic analysis of pilocarpine. This technique combines the high separation efficiency of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with the high sensitivity of mass spectrometry (MS), allowing for the precise detection and quantification of trace components in complex samples. Our services extend beyond identification and quantification to include in-depth studies on the structure-activity relationships, metabolic pathways, and biological activity of alkaloids, providing comprehensive data support.

    • Broad Applicability: Suitable for various biological samples, including plant tissues, blood, and urine.
    • Rapid Analysis: The process from sample handling to report generation is efficient, shortening the analysis cycle.
    • Customized Services: Personalized analysis solutions provided based on specific customer needs.

    Sample Submission Requirements

    • Fresh plant samples: > 1 g
    •  Animal tissue samples: > 200 mg
    • Cell or bacterial samples: > 107, supernatant > 2 mL
    • Animal fluid samples: > 200 µL
    • Lyophilized samples: > 0.5 g

To ensure robustness and reliability of the analysis, submission of at least six biological replicates is recommended, with all samples maintained under controlled conditions to minimize variability and enhance the precision of the results.

    Applications

Ophthalmic Research and Clinical Trials: By monitoring pilocarpine and its metabolites, study the impact on eye pressure regulation to optimize glaucoma treatment plans.

Oral Medicine Research: Assess the stimulating effects of pilocarpine on saliva secretion to improve the quality of life for patients with dry mouth syndrome.

Drug Interaction Assessment: Analyze the interactions between pilocarpine and other drugs to ensure the safety and effectiveness of combined drug use.

Drug Safety Monitoring: Regular monitoring of pilocarpine levels in the body to prevent potential drug overdose and side effects.
