3-Phenylpyruvic acid (PPA) is an intermediate in the metabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine. It is synthesized by transamination of phenylalanine. PPA is known to be a precursor in the biosynthesis of phenylacetate, phenylacetylglutamine, and phenylethylamine. PPA has been associated with various disorders, including phenylketonuria and disorders of tyrosine metabolism. Thus, analysis of PPA can provide crucial insights into these diseases, as well as the metabolic state of the organism. Furthermore, PPA can serve as a biomarker for these disorders, enabling early diagnosis and intervention.
