Case Study

In a study on Parkinson’s disease (PD), a mass spectrometry-based proteomics method was employed to analyze cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from over 200 individuals. Researchers quantified more than 1,700 proteins, enabling the identification of key biomarkers, including OMD, CD44, VGF, PRL, and MAN2B1, which were significantly altered in PD patients and correlated with clinical scores. The study also revealed enhanced neuroinflammation in LRRK2 G2019S carriers, marked by elevated CTSS, PLD4, and HLA proteins. Additionally, the overlap in PD-associated protein changes between CSF and urinary proteomes highlighted lysosomal proteins, opening new avenues for understanding PD pathogenesis.
