Tissue Proteomics Service

Tissue proteomics uses LC-MS/MS to identify and compare proteins in whole-tissue samples. The resulting protein profiles support research into tissue biology, disease-associated changes, and responses to experimental treatments.

MtoZ Biolabs analyzes animal and plant tissues, including fresh, frozen, FFPE, and selected difficult or low-input materials. Sample conditions, research objectives, and expected results guide the choice of analysis.

  • Protein identification and relative quantification
  • Comparative tissue analysis with appropriate study design
  • Fresh, frozen, FFPE, and specialized tissue assessment

When Tissue Proteomics Is a Good Fit

Explore research scenarios where tissue proteomics can provide valuable protein-level information.

Low-Input and LCM-Derived Samples Assess limited-input tissue samples, including laser-capture microdissection (LCM)-derived material, based on available input and sample condition.
Cross-Species Tissue Studies Compare protein profiles across corresponding tissues from different species to investigate conserved or species-specific biological patterns.
Pathology-related research Investigate protein changes associated with inflammation, fibrosis, tissue injury, and other histological features.
Treatment-response research Assess tissue-level protein responses to drugs or experimental interventions using an appropriate comparison design.

Tissue Proteomics Service at MtoZ Biolabs

MtoZ Biolabs provides LC-MS/MS-based analysis of animal and plant tissues for protein identification, relative quantification, and differential protein analysis. Project planning considers tissue condition, available material, and the research objective.

Protein identification DDA is the default route for protein identification. DIA may be suitable for limited-input tissue samples, depending on sample condition and project requirements.
Comparative tissue proteomics Profile relative protein abundance across study groups. Routine whole-tissue quantification uses label-free DIA; TMT and 4D-DIA are available for suitable projects.
Complex and archived tissues Review FFPE, fibrous, lipid-rich, and other challenging tissue matrices. Sample-specific preparation and protein-quality assessment inform the analysis plan.
Specialized research projects Discuss supported tissue PTM analysis, subcellular proteomics, and PRM-based protein validation. Membrane-protein projects require additional assessment.

Sample Submission Requirements

Review recommended tissue amounts, accepted sample formats, and key submission requirements.

Sample type Recommended input Submission notes
Routine animal soft tissue 20–50 mg recommended Fresh or snap-frozen samples; remove blood and non-target tissue where appropriate.
Plant tissue 2–5 g ground powder recommended Provide the species and tissue type; matrix characteristics may affect preparation.
Frozen tissue Minimum input varies by tissue type. Snap-freeze in liquid nitrogen, store at −80°C, and ship on dry ice.
FFPE block, section, or scroll Depends on project FFPE blocks, sections, or scrolls can be submitted at room temperature. Protein extraction is required. Fixation and paraffin embedding services are not provided.
Tissue lysate or protein extract At least 50 μg protein per sample, quantified by BCA or Bradford assay. Provide the extraction or lysis buffer composition and the original tissue source.
Biopsy or LCM-derived material Depends on project Provide available amount, material format, and intended analysis for feasibility review.
Minimum Tissue Input
Soft animal tissue: 10 mg; hard animal tissue, including cartilage and hair: 75 mg; soft plant tissue, such as leaves and flowers: 2 g; hard plant tissue, including roots, stems, and seeds: 5 g.

Applications of Tissue Proteomics

Tissue proteomics supports research into environmental responses, tissue development, plant biology, and tissue regeneration.

Environmental Toxicology Research Analyze protein changes in animal tissues to investigate responses to environmental pollutants, oxidative stress, and potential toxicological mechanisms.
Tissue Development and Aging Examine proteins associated with tissue differentiation, maturation, and aging to explore changes in tissue function across biological stages.
Plant Growth and Stress Responses Investigate proteins involved in plant growth, nutrient metabolism, and responses to environmental stresses such as drought and salinity.
Tissue Remodeling and Regeneration Study changes in extracellular matrix proteins and tissue repair-related pathways to understand tissue remodeling and regeneration.

Result Considerations

Tissue proteomics results should be reviewed in the context of sample comparability and biological variation.

Relative abundance

Routine intensity-based quantitative results describe relative changes rather than absolute protein concentrations.

Bulk tissue composition

Protein profiles may reflect differences in cell proportions or extracellular matrix; not directly resolve cell-specific or spatial expression.

Differential protein evidence

Protein changes should be evaluated with study design, within-group variation, and statistical evidence. Association alone does not establish causality.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about this service.

Yes. Tissues from different organs can be analyzed within one project. Each organ can be profiled separately to investigate organ-specific protein expression patterns and biological differences.
A biological replicate represents an independent biological unit, such as a different animal or plant. At least 3 biological replicates per group are required. For model-animal studies, 6–10 replicates per group are recommended. For clinical samples, the recommended range is 10–30 per group.
Yes. Tissue proteomics can be performed on non-model organisms using a suitable UniProt reference database for the species or a closely related species, depending on database coverage.
Collect comparable anatomical regions across experimental groups and use consistent sampling procedures. When regional differences are the research focus, collect and label each tissue region separately.
Yes. Tissue proteomics results can be interpreted alongside transcriptomic or histological data to investigate relationships between protein abundance, gene expression, and tissue characteristics.
